Forgiveness it can be easier said then done. Do you easily forgive others when they do wrong to you? Have you ever had anyone not forgive you and you wished they did? What does it mean to forgive?

What is forgiveness? If you truly have forgiveness it means that you do not allow that to hold you back or get to you anymore. It means you washed the other person clean of the wrong doing they have done to you. It also means you forget it. In other words you let it go! Sometimes we do not forget. To forgive we must
deny our self and not be selfish.

Forgive is the root word of forgiveness. According to forgive means: for·give [fer-giv] verb, for·gave, for·giv·en,for·giv·ing.

verb (used with object)

1. to grant pardon for or remission of (an offense, debt, etc.);absolve.

2. to give up all claim on account of; remit (a debt, obligation,etc.).

3. to grant pardon to (a person).

4. to cease to feel resentment against: to forgive one’s enemies.

5. to cancel an indebtedness or liability of: to forgive the interest owed on a loan.

Christ forgave us. The Bible says we are to forgive others or Christ won’t forgive us. Do you want your sins forgiven? Then we must forgive others for sinning against us (or doing wrong unto us). Christ died for our sins so we can be forgiven. He became our sacrificial lamb. See Mark 11:25-26; Matthew 6:14-15; Luke 6:35-38; Matthew 18:35

I like this quote “A wise man will make haste to forgive, because he knows the true value of time, and will not suffer it to pass away in unnecessary pain.”

Christ casted our sins into the sea of forgetfulness. Our sins were cast as far as the East is from the West. Our sins to be remembered no more. So where is the sea of forgetfulness? Well, it is a place that I wouldn’t want to know where it is. Because all is forgotten there. How far exactly is the East from the West? Well just think the Earth is round so, you can keep going and going. Just the same, God’s forgiveness keeps going and is everlasting. If God can forgive our sins, shouldn’t we? See Ephesians 4:32; Colossians 3:13

Listen to this song by Casting Crowns “East to West” that talks about forgiveness and sins that are cast as far as the East is from West

Psalm 103:12 is where the above song came from. That verse reads, “As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us.”

Also check out two other great Christian Music artist Matthew West and TobyMac who also have a song about Forgiveness. With each of them they titled the the song “Forgiveness”. Then Sanctus Real and Skillet each have a song called “Forgiven”.

The Bible says we are to do good & love unto our enemies. Those who do us wrong. We are to love them and pray for them. If they are hungry we are to feed them. We are also to forgive them. We are to bless our enemies. I know this can be hard to do. If you see your enemy in need, we must give them aide. Maybe our hospitality will let them see God in us and become saved. On the movie The Secrets of Jonathan Sperry the kids he is witnessing too talks about a bully. They tell him he always takes a slice of pizza from them at the pizza joint. He tells them, when he does, offer him a second slice. See Matthew 5:44-45; Romans 12:20; Luke 6:35-38; Proverbs 20:22

Another quote that I like is “Those who deserve love the least need it the most.”

Check out this moving scene in October Baby about forgiveness.

As I went to re-watch the above scene, it brought tears to my eyes. So it is a very moving scene. It can show you power of forgiveness and importance of forgiveness.

One thing we must also do too is confess our sins. We must confess our sins to Christ and to one another. We must also repent (or turn away for sin). We are not sinless, but we should try to sin less. We have to remember when we forgive that the other person is not sinless, they sin just the same as you and I. They make some of the same mistakes or similar or even different mistakes then we do. See 1 John 1:9; James 5:16

Forgiveness helps our relationships. By forgiving one another we show Christ love for one another. Forgiveness helps mend relationships and help keep relationships because we are sharing God’s love with one another. If we want a successful relationship we must have Christ in the picture of that relationship.

In closing: If Christ forgives us for sins, we are told to forgive others so we can be forgiven. Shouldn’t we forgive others when they do wrong against us? So let’s forgive each other while we still have the chance because we are never promised tomorrow! You have the power to choose to forgive. Forgiveness gives you the power to be free. Plus you will feel a weight lifted off when you forgive someone else. One other thing as I close, not only do we need to forgive others, but we must forgive ourselves too.

A quote from Martin Luther King Jr. “Forgiveness is God’s Command.” I couldn’t have summed it up no easier than that.

I edited this post after seeing this Air1′s status on Facebook. I figured I would share with my readers on this blog entry.

“‘Forgiveness’ is the F-bomb that we don’t hear dropped enough.” – Ashton

If you have done wrong against a fellow person, make it right today! If someone has wronged you, forgive them!
