The Race

Reposted from Examiner

I have seen something else under the sun:
The race is not to the swift
or the battle to the strong,
nor does food come to the wise
or wealth to the brilliant
or favor to the learned;
but time and chance happen to them all.”(
Ecclesiastes 9:11)

Swift means to move quickly. Runners train to move swiftly in a race. Birds swiftly fly from one part of the sky to the next. Waters flow swiftly downstream. Time and years sometimes are known to move by swiftly. Time stands still for no man. Life keeps moving from one event to the next one. The times are swiftly changing.

The Holy Bible mentions the word “swift” on more than one occasion. God’s judgment is said “to come swiftly” upon the earth and nations. People will be going about normal activities and suddenly God will act. He will do it quickly. The current times and this world are swiftly going away and will be replaced at the end of this age with the new one.

Believers in Christ Jesus are running a race. The race of faith is requiring them to trust in the Lord God. They are to run in a way to not be disqualified. Wisdom tells them that the race is not about being swift or being the strongest. It is about being dependent upon God to endure to the end. The finish line holds a crown or life for every one that finishes the Christian race.

Believers, everything is swiftly moving and the temporary will cease to exist. The invisible are the things of the Holy Spirit. They are permanent and eternal. They are of God and from Him. Run the race not swiftly but with perseverance to be faithful.
