The Check

By Dan Polecheck

Check

Let’s take a look at the check above;

You notice that it is numbered “All”. That is because there could be a check for every sinner that has ever walked, is presently walking, or will ever walk on this earth. But it is because of God’s grace that we receive this check.

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, – Romans 3:23

When we look at the date of the check, it is clearly written “Now”. What does that mean? It was explained to us in Scripture. It will be written the exact second that we ask for Jesus to enter our lives.

For He says, “In a favorable time I listened to you, and in a day of salvation I have helped you.” Behold, now is the favorable time; behold, now is the day of salvation. – 2 Corinthians 6:2

It is written out to every believer because we are told again in Scripture that if we believe we will receive eternal life.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. – John 3:16

What was the cost of writing this check? The cost our sins is death.

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. – Romans 6:23

Why was this check written? It was written because God loves us so much. But whose death are we talking about? Ours? No. This check was written and backed by the death of God’s only Son, Jesus Christ.

but God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. – Romans 5:8

Because Jesus Christ signed this check with His blood we have the right to be become children of God. Please take note, this is not something that we deserved, we did nothing to earn it. It was given to use by the grace of God.

But to all who did receive him, who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God, – John 1:12

One of the greatest prayers of thanksgiving for our salvation was written by the psalmist in Psalm 118:

Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
for his steadfast love endures forever!
Let Israel say,
“His steadfast love endures forever.”
Let the house of Aaron say,
“His steadfast love endures forever.”
Let those who fear the Lord say,
“His steadfast love endures forever.”
Out of my distress I called on the Lord;
the Lord answered me and set me free.
The Lord is on my side; I will not fear.
What can man do to me?
The Lord is on my side as my helper;
I shall look in triumph on those who hate me.
It is better to take refuge in the Lord
than to trust in man.
It is better to take refuge in the Lord
than to trust in princes.
All nations surrounded me;
in the name of the Lord I cut them off!
They surrounded me, surrounded me on every side;
in the name of the Lord I cut them off!
They surrounded me like bees;
they went out like a fire among thorns;
in the name of the Lord I cut them off!
I was pushed hard,[a] so that I was falling,
but the Lord helped me.
The Lord is my strength and my song;
he has become my salvation.
Glad songs of salvation
are in the tents of the righteous:
“The right hand of the Lord does valiantly,
the right hand of the Lord exalts,
the right hand of the Lord does valiantly!”
I shall not die, but I shall live,
and recount the deeds of the Lord.
The Lord has disciplined me severely,
but he has not given me over to death.
Open to me the gates of righteousness,
that I may enter through them
and give thanks to the Lord.
This is the gate of the Lord;
the righteous shall enter through it.
I thank you that you have answered me
and have become my salvation.
The stone that the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone.[b]
This is the Lord’s doing;
it is marvelous in our eyes.
This is the day that the Lord has made;
let us rejoice and be glad in it.
Save us, we pray, O Lord!
O Lord, we pray, give us success!
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!
We bless you from the house of the Lord.
The Lord is God,
and he has made his light to shine upon us.
Bind the festal sacrifice with cords,
up to the horns of the altar!
You are my God, and I will give thanks to you;
you are my God; I will extol you.
Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
for his steadfast love endures forever!
